Jack Link's Peppered with Beans:
It's good and lives up to the pepper label, it's got a strong black pepper flavor. It's thick, filling, meaty. Very reminiscent of their black pepper jerky.
8/10Ben's Chili Bowl Chili Con Carne:
Pretty spicy, thick, meaty, filling. Not slimey cornstach thickend. It's a great standard-style savory meaty bean chili.
8/10STAGG Laredo Chili With Beans:
The peppers add a noticable but mild twist to the flavor. The chili itself is not very spicy. It's filling and does not have the slimey thickened texture some others have. All in all pretty good.
8/10Campbell's Chunky Chilli:
The flavor is decent but it does not really stand out and it is not very spicy. More chilli powder and cayenne would be nice. It is however savory and very filling with a decent texture. All in all, it's pretty worth it but misses out on a perfect score.
8/10Amy's Organic Black Bean Chilli:
It's very savory, decently filling. It has a somewhat unique flavor compared to the other chillis. Like it's still chilli, but not quite the classic flavor you'd expect. It's not bad by any means though. The texture is fine. It has almost no spiciness however. It tastes good, which is better than I expected considering it is low-fat acording to the can, vegetarian and has almost half the calories of other chillis I've reviewed. It's surprisingly good and worth a try, vegetarian or no.
8/10Sprague Plant Based White Bean Chili:
Pretty good! It's mildly spicy, very filling. It's got a decent vegetable pepper flavor. The thickness is entirely from the beans and veggies and has none of the slimey thickener additive textures.
7.5/10Jack Link's Original with Beans:
Not very spicy, it is thick, filling, savory and it has a balance of the usual spices with a mild pepper flavor coming through. It doesn't stand out in any particular way, but is a quality chili.
7.5/10Wolf Brand Chilli, With Beans:
I found it! Pretty good, but somehow not as great as I thought it would be compared to the no-beans version. This was the spiciest chilli I have tried so far. It's still not alot, but certainly more noticeable than most chillis. Flavor is good and the beans do improve the chilli.
7.5/10Castlbury's Adobe Lime White Chicken Chili:
Pretty good. Not outright amazing, but good. With a bit of cheese, this tastes remarkably like a chicken chimichanga in a chili bowl. It's got a hint of lime, a little runny, savory, peppery flavors are present. One of the best white and/or chicken chilis I've had.
7/10Chilli Man:
Tastes is good. It is not slimey but it does have an odd grainyness to it. It's not hard like sand, but it certainly has a soft grit quality to it. Almost like ground beef but only the finest grounds? It definently does not taste like a '2 time world winning' chili. I went further and the ICS supposedly has the 1973 and 1975 chili recipe this is 'based on'. While I can't tell if the actual spices are any different, there are certainly ingredients added and missing. Assuming the Chilli Mix has not changed and ignoring beans since I wanted the version with beans, we have 8 added ingredients and 2 removed compared to the original recipe. Like decent chili but misleading.
7/10Jack Link's Hickory with Beans:
Not very spicy. It has a strong hickory flavor to it. Similar to the other JackLinks chilis it's savory, hearty, with some spices coming through. I personally prefer the other JackLinks chilis to this one, but it's still easily one of the better chilis. If you like hickory in-particular this is definently worth a try.
7/10Campbell's Chunky Hot and Spicy With Beans:
Actually spicey! Not unbearably so though, and the burns comes with actual pepper flavors in it, not just pure capsaicin. It's also decently filling. It has that forcibly thickened texture though, not a fan of that. Oddly enough, the non-spicey version was less obviously thickened. This one testes better, but the non-spicy is better in texture.
7/10Wolfbrand Angus Chili with Beans:
Pretty similar to the normal Wolbrand chili with beans. Maybe slightly runnier and with more noticable meat, but otherwise the overall flavor, texture and spiciness are all very similar.
7/10Hormel Cilantro Lime:
Not bad. Little limey. Decent amount of spice. Savory. Thickness isn't bad. In general pretty good.
7/10Jack Link's Jalapeno with Beans:
Also pretty good. It's mildly spicy, but the Jalapeno flavor itself does not come through super strongly to me. Otherwise it's thick, filling savory. Still a good chili option.
7/10Sprague Plant Based Triple Bean:
Very much a cinnamon flavor and a bit sweet but not unpleasantly so. Very hardy. It's pretty good and worth a try if for nothing else than it being a bit of a different flavor profile and worth even more of a try if you're vegetarian.
7/10Ben's Chili Bowl Turkey Chili:
Much soupier than the beef version and a little less spicy but still with a really good flavor. Like the beef version, this one has the turkey all throughout the chili so it's very savory. It has large vegetable chunks like stewed tomatos, peppers, onions. It's very slightly sweeter, but not at all in a bad way. Certainly the best turkey chili I've had.
7/10Wendy's Canned Chili:
Not bad. Good mix of flavors. Meat, peppers, tomatoes, multiple beans. Not slimey, but it does have a sweetness that I dislike. Not as pronounced as Stagg Classic, but definently there.
6.5/10Castleberry's Food Truck Stout Beef Chili:
The range of peppers are noticable and it's moderately spicy! It somehow smells a bit of sweet red wine. It also tastes sweet but not from the added sugar I think. The beer itself maybe lending some sweetness. Overall, a step better than average with a flavor that stands out uniquely but just slightly too sweet.
6.5/10Yellowstone Jimmy's Cowboy Chili with Beans:
Apparently this is based on a TV Show? Anywho, this is pretty decent. It's thick, filling, the spices are present and add chili and pepper flavors. Only mildly spicy, but it's definently there. Like it's almost a pretty damn good chili... but the beeeeeeeeans. Several of them are in that like... half-hydrated state. A bit grainy, crumbly, dry. It's the only thing dragging this chili down in particular. Because of that, it's both one of the better chilis and worse chilis I've reviewed. I'd say... under Jack Links, but easily above all the mid-tier white label nonsense.
6.5/10Lidl Vemondo Vegan Chili:
Not amazing on the flavor. Largely just a savory slop. It's not very strong on the chili flavor nor do any pepper notes come through. It's not horrible though, kind of falling in line with the other generic white-label chilis. That said, this is 320 calories for half a 2 cups and it's vegan. So while not amazing, it's not bad and is a decent choice for vegans or people counting calories.
6.5/10Dennison's Chili Con Carne with Beans:
Thick, filling, flavor decent but doesn't stand out. It's a safe chili.
6/10Cattle Drive Gold Chili:
The meat is grainy. It's VERY explosive in the microwave. I'm not sure why, but it really like to pop and splutter. Thickened artificially. Slightly sweet. Noticable peppers, tomatoes and onions. Little bit of spicyness. Sorta middle of the road chilil.
6/10Stagg Silverado Beef:
It has an odd slightly sweet flavor in a vegetable way. A bit slimy. Noticable but mild spiciness. Neither terrible nor great.
6/10Nalley Hot Chili:
Not nearly as hot as the label implies. Im not too bummed by that though. Slightly slimey with that forcibly thickened texture. It could use a little something to make the flavor pop, but it's ok.
6/10Wolf Brand Chilli, No Beans:
The flavor is good but a bit strong and edges on cloying after a while. This seems like it would be better used as a topping or mixed with stuff. Spiciness is not bad, not super strong but noticable. I would rate this higher depending on how you use it. This would be perfect as a topping on rice, salad, nachos or hotdogs. Maybe there is a version with beans. That would be worth a try if I can find it.
6/10Nalley Cheese Chili:
Soupy, but at least it's not slimey. Cheese flavor is definently there. Feels like it's missing something though. It's a decent chili.
6/10Hormel Chilli with Beans:
Tastes alright. It's very savory and filling. It has a bit of the artificial thickener thing going on though, with that sometimes slimey texture. The spices could be improved. The spiciness level is pretty mild but it is there. It's an ok chilli.
6/10Lidl Homestyle Chilli with Beans:
Tastes alright. Savory, decently filling. Mild spiciness. It's got some of that artificial thickener going on. It's a generic chilli.
6/10Amy's Organic Chilli, Medium:
Flavor is muted and sometimes seems to border on sweet. It's not the chunkiest chilli, but not the soupiest either. Despite being medium, there is practically no spiciness to it. I learned these next parts after reading the can. It has slightly less calories than most other chillis. The real surprising thing though, there is no meat in this chilli. Props there, I straight up thought it was beef grounds. Nope, tofu. If you want a healthier chilli though, just go with Amy's Black Bean Chilli. Same company, but a far better execution... wonder if they would consider throwing their faux beef grounds into their black bean chilli... Anywho, not the worst chilli, but kinda dissapointing.
6/10Amy's Organic Chilli, Spicy:
Similiar to the non-spicy version. It's more definitively savory and spicy but it still doesn't have much going in the way of flavor. The mild version seems to have more flavor in general, but this version is more savory and spicy.
6/10Armour Chili:
Thick, filling, mildly spicy and not slimey. It has an almost cheesy quality to it. It's decent but not quite what I want in a chili.
6/10Pacific Foods Fire Roasted Vegetable:
Slimey. Smells good, fairly tomato-forward. It's not terrible but not great. Low calorie and vegetarian without tasting weird.
6/10Giant Beef Chili with Beans:
Somewhat slimey. Hearty with chunks of beef and beans. Not picking up much in the way of peppers or seasonings. The flavor is largely just a mild bland savoryness.
5/10Southgate Chili with Beans:
Forcibly thickened. Savory, not much in the way of other flavors, just slight pepper and savory. Mid.
5/10Hormel Vegetarian Chili with Beans:
Flavor is light but exists. It's thickened pretty forcibly and has a fairly slimy sauce because of that.
5/10Hormel Angus and Beans Chilli:
Soupier than I like my chillis. The beef is in these bean-sized balls instead of nice grounds. It's like someone threw meatballs into the chilli. The spiciness is there, but not overwhelming. Some will prefer it hotter, but I find it fine. The sauce has the texture of something forcibly thickened though, like that slightly slimey texture. The same texture you may get in alot of cheap canned soups and stews. Overall, it's not terrible, but I would search out other chilli over this.
5/10Amy's Medium Chili with Vegetable:
On the one hand, this chili do have more veggies than most and it does not have a sweet tang like alot of products with veggies added. On the other though, the overall flavor needs work. It's savory, but there is a certain something I don't quite like. Maybe a burned garlic or something? I also have a feeling like another flavor is missing. Tabasco helps a bit there.
5/10STAGG Classic Chili with Beans:
Pretty okay chili. Like, the beans and bean variety, meat texture, veggies and spices were all pretty good. Buuuuut... it's somehow vaguely sweet wich I am not liking. It's like they took an 8/10 chili and added a tablespoon of sugar to it.
5/10Stagg Country Brand:
Quite thick and slimy. Slightly spicy. Slightly sweet.
5/10Marie Callender's Angus Beef Chili:
Slimy. Seems like it may have quite a bit of cornstarch thickener in it. It has a good amount of heat, and a slightly sour almost cheesy flavor to it. It's filling, but more due to how thick the sauce is. The flavor overall is not bad, but I'm having trouble getting over the thickener.
5/10Southgate Chili with Beans:
Not super spicy. Nothing stands out much in the way of spices. It's filling, chicken is fine. Other than it's made with chicken, it's very run-of-the-mill.
5/10Stagg Dynamite Hot with Beans:
Slimy thick. Definently one of the spicier ones, but not as punishing as I was expecting. Like their classic chili, the sweetness is killing it for me. After a few spoonfulls the flavor just melds into a sweet n spicy tomato paste deal. I decided to check the nutritional facts to see if I was nuts. Nope, 20g sugar in the can. That is 2g more than their classic flavor which was already too sweet. Their Laredo flavor, the best Stagg chili I've reviewed is at 8g a can. Chili man is at 2g. This really is just a sugary chili.
4.5/10Nalley Turkey Chili:
The flavor is a bit bland. Slightly slimey but it has lots of beans and it is filling. It's got this gameyness to it though.
4/10Unmeat Meat Free Chili with Beans:
Thick but not slimey. Somewhat spicy. Fairly standard style chili. Taste has a sorta off thing going on, part taste part smell. Almost mildewy? Not sure what it is, but I suspect the faux meat. If I were to change it, I'd use maybe a fourth of the faux meat and add more vegetable chunks to bulk it up again.
4/10365 by Wholefoods Organic Three Bean Chili:
Very much a soup. The picture on the box looks like chili, but in reality the liquid covers any and all beans and veggies and it's artificially thickened. This is a vegan chili and it does not taste weird or anything and has low calories. All good points there. While not bad, the flavor does not have much depth to it however. It comes off mostly as mildly spicy and savory.
4/10Vietti All Natural Chili With Beans:
Very bare-bones chili. Just meat, a single type of bean, thickener, tomato paste and spices. No peppers or anything else.
4/10Jack Link's Original Chili No Beans:
Very oily and runny in a soupy way. It has some good seasoning to it, with some definent peppers and spices coming through. Not very spicy. Maybe good as a sauce but not as a bowl of chili, especially at nearly 700 calories. Will try and get a with beans version.
4/10Plant Strong Creamy White Bean Chili:
Soupy but filling. It's largely flavorless with the only main flavor being a hint of garlic and onion. It visibly has multiple types of beans, peppers, potatoes, cauliflower and more, but none of it tastes like much of anything.
4/10Soup Proper Good Southwest Chili:
Maybe I got a bad batch. The first and most dominate flavor I got is burnt. Maybe it was supposed to be charred or smokey, but it tastes like something caught fire unintentionally. The next thing that stood out is how grainy and dense the beans were. Like they were not cooked quite long enough before packaging.
3/10Castleberry's Food Truck Shredded Pork Chili:
Smells decent with sweet teriyaki-like notes. Its very slimey in an off-putting waybthough and the flavor has a bitter note.
3/10Skyline Chili:
The flavor itself is not bad and somewhat unique, but it's runny and there is very little substance to it. This is my first experience with a 'Cincinnati Chili'. It seems most people throw this on spaghetti or hotdogs. As a bowl of chili on it's own though, it's not great. I think I will try it again with beans, if I can find the version with beans for under 60$ that is...
3/10Castleberry's Food Truck Fire Roasted Vegetarian Chili:
Similar slimey texture as the shredded pork version. Almost smokey but more on the side of burnt. The fire roasted part is over exaggerated as the whole chili tastes like it was burned to the bottom of a pan and pulled back up. There is a wide variety of vegetables but I can't really taste anything other than ash.
3/10Nalley Chili:
It has a slightly unpleasant flavor. Like maybe too much cumin, or something along those lines. The texture isn't bad though.
3/10Augason Farms Southwest Chili Mix:
Pretty meh. Taste is muted and the most prominent flavor I get is onion. This is a dehydrated chili mix, and after 15 minutes of boiling, the beans are still pretty dry/hard. Not quite crunchy, but it crumbles when bitten and it's certainly not like a fresh soft cooked bean.
2/10Hormel Turkey Chilli, No Beans:
The general flavor is similiar to other hormel chillis however without anything interesting. No peppers or veggies and it's pretty runny. Not spicy. Very meh to the point of being not great. It's not absolutely disgusting, but definitely dissapointing all around.
